Enlightenment
As the teacher you need to know the environment that gave rise to these thinkers, the various great thinkers (Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, Mary Wollstonecraft,Rousseau, Adam Smith at a minimum) and each one's big ideas, how these ideas are revolutionary, how these ideas spread, the effect of the of these ideas on both the time period and today, the various Enlightened Despots (Catherine the Great, Frederick the Great, Joseph II at a minimum) and how each embraced both the ideas of the Enlightenment and the actions of a despot.
